Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Senator Lindsey Graham, continues to grow the Republican-majority Senate’s legacy of confirming President Trump’s judicial appointees at lightning speed.
Chief counsel and policy director to the Judicial Crisis Network, Carrie Severino, wrote: “Trump, McConnell, Grassley, and Graham should be applauded for keeping their promises and accomplishing what they have on judges over the last two and a half years. Their efforts have brought the nation’s appellate courts an unprecedented number of judges who believe in adhering to the Constitution according to its text and its original meaning, not in molding the law to fit their policy preferences.”
As of July, the Senate had confirmed 46 Trump-appointees this year to district and appellate courts throughout the U.S. Just before the Senate left for August recess, Senator Graham propelled that number further by ensuring 13 additional district court judges were confirmed, bringing the 2019 total to 59 confirmations. Since President Trump took office, the Senate has confirmed over 100 judicial appointees including 2 historic Supreme Court justices!
NPR Politics reported: “Trump and his Republican allies in the Senate have placed an unmistakable stamp on the federal judiciary,” commenting that “In the 2 ½ years that Trump has been in office, his administration has appointed nearly 1 in 4 of the nation’s federal appeals court judges and 1 in 7 of its district court judges.”
This has all been accomplished with the initial leadership and unwavering determination of Senator Graham to push these nominees through the Senate Judiciary Committee’s approval. But these confirmations haven’t all been smooth sailing – Senate Democrats refused to show up to Senator Graham’s committee hearings and voted no on nearly half of President Trump’s nominees in an unprecedented display of organized opposition.
Senator Graham knows the risk is too high to let the Democrats win in their efforts to block President Trump’s judicial appointees. While the Democrats were busy delaying and blocking progress in the Senate this year, Chairman Graham’s committee got to work to produce real results for the American people.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said on the campaign trail this week that these confirmations have saved the Supreme Court for a generation — a true legacy.
Chairman Graham has been instrumental in growing the Senate’s important legacy of placing principled, fair, and distinguished judges on benches all across America – one yes vote at a time.
Tell Senator Graham THANK YOU for protecting our nation’s courts!
