On the second day of Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s Supreme Court confirmation hearing, Senator Lindsey Graham questioned Barrett and commended her again for her qualifications.
Senator Graham asked Barrett how the Supreme Court would handle hypothetical cases, and he mentioned important Supreme Court decisions like Roe v. Wade and Brown v. Board of Education.
Barrett reaffirmed the fact that she is committed to upholding the law and remaining true to the Constitution, despite attacks from the left on her Catholic faith.
“Judges can’t just wake up one day and say ‘I have an agenda – I like guns, I hate guns, I like abortion, I hate abortion’ and walk in like a royal queen and impose their will on the world,” Barrett said. “You have to wait for cases and controversies – which is the language of the Constitution – to wind their way through the process.”
Senator Graham, who is chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said that he was glad President Trump nominated Barrett to fill the Supreme Court seat.
“…I’ll do everything I can to make sure that you have a seat at the table, and that table is the Supreme Court,” Graham said to Judge Barrett. “If anybody in the country, in my view, deserves to have a seat at the table – based on the way they’ve lived their life and their capabilities in the law – it is you, Judge. God bless you.”
Amy Coney Barrett is an upstanding and accomplished judge, and her confirmation to the Supreme Court will undoubtedly be great for America. Senator Lindsey Graham is working hard to make that happen.
